My Entrepreneurial journey

My own small business journey began about 17 years ago while working at a local restaurant. I started in the kitchen making pizza. I took pride in making pizzas, each one was a work of art. While working in the kitchen I noticed some trends in the ordering habits of customers. I used that information to develop some new processes for handling the work load. Upper management took notice and moved me through the ranks to the store manager. In that job I got my first taste of what it was like to run a small business. I had to process payroll, create the schedules, and train staff. I even once had to break up a fight in the store. I loved the challenge of both solving and adverting possible problems. I knew I didn't want to work at the restaurant forever, so I decided to pursue my degree in Accounting. I thought if I want to help other businesses, then I need to speak business.

After college, I got my opportunity to help other business owners  working as a bookkeeper. I realized that a large number of these owners where stressed out about their accounting. It was shocking to see how many of them didn't have a clear process for handling their accounting needs. I often found myself saying “you can’t just ignore it”. I still remember the first time someone came in to my office and dropped a huge box full of receipts on my desk. With tears running down her face she asked "Can you please figure this out?".

My journey took a turn when my wife and I decided to open our own small clothing boutique. We had two young kids at the time, and full time jobs. I was confident that we could handle it though. I was going to focus on the business stuff, and she was going to bring the style. I learned real quick that the business stuff was more than the accounting alone. I had to develop a website, run advertisements, and respond to customers. Time was so limited. We barely had any time to give to the most important parts of our life. Our family. Coaching my kid's baseball team felt like a distant dream.

A simple fix would have been to hire an accountant, a consultant, and a coach. But that would have cost us a fortune that we didn’t have. Consultants and CPA’s alone cost hundreds per hour, and it always felt like they had much bigger fish to fry. So I decided to invest in learning it myself. I took courses from the leading professionals in marketing. I became obsessed with reading books on business, and listing to podcast in the car. I spent many hours working with the powerful online tools available. I was able to develop some very efficient processes, and take back control of our business.

I want to share these solutions with you, and I want to give you my services at a great value. My goal is to help you get rid of some of the stress in your small business, and free up your time. Your business doesn't need to be a solo adventure. Take back control today!
